The first Down on the Farm Car Show is a family-held event for the public happening on Sept. 10, bringing activities and prizes to win.

CountryBoyz HotRodz YouTube channel and H&R Farms created the event and are bringing it to their family farm in Pendleton over in Northampton County.

Event Organizer Rose Harris Pait said she and her four other siblings grew up on the farm and her older brother, Thad Harris, brought the show idea to her. Pait said her brother has been a motorhead since he was born, working on cars and building them.

“He said, ‘Look, it’s always been a dream of mine to have a car show on the farm, and I think there’s enough room out here that we could do it,’ ” she said her brother told her. “My husband and I recently built a house right here on the farm, and he said, ‘What do you think? And I said, ‘Let’s try it.’ So that’s how it came about.”

Pait said the car show is for cars, motorcycles, tractors and trucks. Additionally, the Conway Volunteer Fire Department will cook Boston butts the night before and serve bagged meals featuring barbecue sandwiches, a bag of chips and a drink for $10. She said there will be other activities for the children in a shaded area. Pait said if it is a sunny day then there will be a large shelter for people to be under. She said there will also be a scavenger hunt for spectators where they can walk around and identify things on vehicles. Pait said if participants find all nine items then they can turn their cards in for a prize.

“It’s kind of a neat way to get to know something about cars,” she said. “We’re going to have a bake sale — the ladies auxiliary is doing that. We’re going to do a cakewalk, which is an old-timey thing that we’re looking forward to trying.”

Pait said Sycamore Farms will be on site selling products such as sweet potatoes, apples, jellies, jams and honey.

Organizers of the car show will offer a 50/50 and other raffles and door prizes.

The event is a first for the family and the show will be a first in the area, but Part said it is also a fundraiser to help the fire department.

“They have to function on very little funding so all the proceeds will go to the Conway Volunteer Fire Department,” she said. “We have no idea how many people will come, but the community has really, really been great.”

Pait said the community has responded by donating $3,000 in raffle prizes. Some of those prizes are a Badland 2-inch wide by 20-foot long recovery snatch strap, a 36-inch Blackstone griddle, a Yeti cooler and more. There will also be a silent auction for a working traffic light donated by Bobby Brower that has been pin-striped by Butch Oliver.

The event will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is located at 211 Frank Harris Road, 25 miles east of Roanoke Rapids. On-site registration to enter a vehicle is from 9 a.m. to noon for $20, and spectators receive free entry to the event. There will also be a DJ providing music trivia throughout the day with small prizes to win.
