EAST HARTFORD — East Hartford VFW Post 2083 and Support Our Soldiers-Connecticut invite veterans of the U.S. military to a free end- of-summer cookout on Friday, Sept. 16 at 6 pm. The menu will include hot dogs and hamburgers, salads, desserts, and refreshments.

The cookout will be held rain or shine at the Hillstown Grange, 617 Hills St.

Spouses, caregivers, and significant others are also invited.

The grange is a smoke-free venue and is accessible to the handicapped.

This is a good time to ask questions about veteran benefits and problems.

At 7:30 p.m. there will be a program on veteran addiction and suicide prevention.

St. Peter’s turkey dinner

HEBRON — St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 30 Church St. (Route 85), will hold its next monthly community dinner on Saturday, Sept.17, from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. or until sold-out. If both parking lots are filled and the food is ready, serving may start at 4 p.m.

The cost of the turkey breast dinner is $15.

This is a take-out-only dinner with no preorders or reservations – first come, first served. Servers will come to your car, take your order, money, and dessert choice, and place your meal in the back seat or trunk.

As part of the St. Peter’s outreach programs, a portion of each meal sold this month will go to Protector of Animals in East Hampton.

WINDSOR — The Windsor Woman’s Club (General Federation of Women's Clubs) will have an Oktoberfest benefit dinner at Dom’s Broad Street Eatery on Friday, Oct. 7, from 5 to 8 p.m.

The cost is $30. The menu will include a dinner choice of roasted chicken, wurst (German sausage), or Rahmschnitzel (pork cutlet); BYOB.

Proceeds will be used for scholarships for high school seniors residing in Windsor.

Reservations must be made directly to the restaurant at 860-298-9758 by Oct. 4.

EAST HARTFORD — Hillstown Grange will hold a pancake breakfast on Saturday, Oct. 1, from 8:30 to 11 a.m.

HARTFORD — Real Art Ways, 56 Arbor St., will have its monthly social event, a Creative Cocktail Hour, today, Sept. 15, from 6 to 10 p.m. It is a gathering of people at all ages from different walks of life, Black, white, latino, city, suburb, LGBTQ+ and is held the third Thursday of every month at Real Art Ways. 56 Arbor St.

Creative Cocktail will feature a mix of musicians and artists, and things to do. A food truck will be onsite.

Tickets are $15 general admission, $10 for Real Art Ways members, free for RAW members who come on a bicycle; available online or at the door.
